Brewers find formula for victory in their second trip to JetHawk

American League Championship returnees Brewers were at it again, this time for keeps.

The Brewers (16-4) after coming up a run short last year; arrived at JetHawk with determination and high expectations in their game against the L.A.P.D. Centurions (14-5-1) for all the marbles.

A game decided by lots of hitting had things deadlocked at 4 after two innings.

The Centurions scored three in the first on a balk by Brewers pitcher, Steve Riggs, and a single by Centurion 1st baseman, Nick Memecek, and then a clutch two out double by right fielder, Mike Scott.

Brewers third baseman, Dane Northcutt swung a hot stick all day going 4 for 4 including three doubles driving in 5 runs.

Brewers catcher, Howard Halen, blasted a solo homer in the fourth inning along with his two other base hits. Designated hitter Luis Valencia and right fielder Danny Cuellar also contributed offensively with 3 hits apiece.

The Brewers continued their quest by scoring 3 runs in the third, 2 in the fourth and 4 more in the fifth to spunk a 15 run 20 hit shelling of Centurion pitching.

Brewer starting pitcher, Steve Riggs kept the Centurions in check through eight innings allowing just 6 hits and 2 walks while striking out 6.

The Centurions mounted a big comeback in the ninth inning making things interesting by creating a five run rally that eventually would fall short.

Brewers head manager, Wayne Topping, said, “We had a taste of it last year, this year we were here to take it.”

The Brewers were the number one seed going into the playoffs finishing the regular season at 16-4. To get to JetHawk they had to overcome an 8-1 deficit vs the Knights in their first round playoff game in order to stay alive in the playoffs.
