Dodgers Dominate the Tribe in Fall Final

By Scot Sweet / PCBL Staff Writer

This was the 1st game of our championship double-header at Conejo Creek Park in Thousand Oaks. It was a cold morning with clouds threatening in the distance; but the field was perfect for championship competition. With that being said, let's get right to the action!

The Dodgers led off the day with 1st baseman Jason Kent who draws a lead off walk. He steals 2nd and reaches 3rd on a pass ball shortly thereafter. With the next 2 batters striking out; the batter is Aaron Brown with 2 out and Kent on 3rd. He promptly drives one over the wall in right field for a 2-run homer. The Dodgers get 2 runs in the inning to take the early 2-0 lead.

The Tribe come up in the bottom of the 2nd inning; still trailing 2-0. They lead off with Eddie Gomez who goes deep to right for a solo homer. They would settle for the lone run in the inning; trailing by a score of 2-1 through 2 complete innings of play.

But back come the Dodgers in the top of the 3rd. They lead off with Aaron Brown who hit the 2-run shot in the 1st inning. He singles to left to get things started for the Dodgers. Batting next is Ari Shandling who tripled in his 1st at bat. He doubles to center; scoring Brown. Two batters later, grounds out to 2nd; scoring Shandling on the play. The Dodgers get 2 runs in the inning to take a 4-1 lead.

The Dodgers come up in the top of the 5th; still leading by a 4-1 margin. With 1 out, Ari Shandling reaches base due to a fielding error. Matt Gray follows with a single. Two batters later, Michael Schofield is hit by a pitch to load the bases for Danny Shandling. He walks to force in a run. They settle for one run in the inning; now leading the Tribe by a score of 5-1 through 4 ½ innings of play.

The Tribe fail to score in the bottom of the 5th, sending the Dodgers up in the top of the 6th to try to pad their 4-run lead. Brandon Kaufman replaces Brian Rich on the mound for the Tribe. Kevin Raymond gets his first hit of the day; a single to right. He's followed by David Keesee who also gets his first hit; also a single to right. Aaron Brown reaches base on a fielders choice; with a run scoring on a fielding error. Two batters later, Matt Gray singles to right; scoring two. The Dodgers add 3 runs in the inning and now lead by a score of 8-1 through 5 ½ innings of play.

The Tribe, however; find some offense in the bottom of the 6th. With 1 out in the inning, Brian Rich draws a walk. He's followed by Eddie Gomez who Homered in the 2nd and singled in the 4th. He doesn't disappoint in this at bat either, as he rips a 2-run homer to left. The Tribe settle for the pair of runs in the inning; and now trail the Dodgers by a score of 8-3 through 6 complete innings of this championship.

That would be the last shred of hope that the Tribe would experience in this contest. The Dodgers went on to score 2 runs in the 7th and another run in the 8th; making the score 11-3 Dodgers as we headed into the top of the 9th inning. That's when the final nail was driven in this contest. With 1 out and 2 runners on, Jason Kent added the exclamation point with a 3-run homer. They go on to win by a final score of 14-3.

Cudos to the Tribe for a great season and for fighting there way into today's championship. And congratulations to this years' A-Division Fall Champion Dodgers for an exceptional season and for such a dominating championship victory!
