Tournament Recap

The RAH Indians of the Pacific Coast Baseball MABL are a lot richer and now have $3,500 to pay for their trip to The World Series in Arizona or to spend however they chose. The Indians defeated the Trots, a team from San Diego MABL with sponsorship from Already Out Bail Bonds, 7-6 in the championship game. The Championship game was played at Cal State University Northridge on Monday, May 31st at 10:00am. Both teams played 5 games, 2 on Saturday and 3 on Sunday, to get to the big money game!

The Trots got on top early scoring 2 in the top of the first inning. The Indians came back scoring 1 in the third and then 3 in the fourth with the help of a 2 run homer by Jason Mitchell. 4-2 Indians after 4 complete. The Trots answer back in the top of the fifth with a solo blast by catcher, Rocky Nava. With the score now 4-3 the Indians tried to put the game away with a solo HR by Eric Martinez in the sixth and a two run shot in the bottom of the eighth by Juan Dorado. But the Trots did not give up, they scored 1 in the eighth on a triple by Dave Campagna and then Chris Buy doubled in 2 more runs with two outs in the top of the ninth. The Trots now had two outs, runners on second and third and were only trailing 7-6. The Indians decided it was time to pull their starting pitcher, Juan Velazquez, and put the game in the hands of their closer, Sal Villaseñor. In heroic fashion and with the money on the line Sal Villaseñor was able to strike out the Trots next batter and save the victory for the Indians 7-6.

Steve Pack of the Trots pitched a fantastic Championship Game especially considering he already pitched a full 9 innings on Saturday.

  Special Quotes:

"This was a great tournament! Having three umpires for all qualifying games and then four umpires for all play-off and the championship game made for great officiating. We don't get that at other tournaments." Art Chaves, Indians

"This is great competition! I think the team we played today could beat most minor league teams." Floyd Mohler, Trots

"This is a fantastic format for a tournament, but it's not for all teams. We want only truly elite competition for this tournament, the best 16 teams out there. Who knows, maybe next year I'll up the prize money to $5,000!!" James DuPrey, Pacific Coast Baseball
