2019 PCBL Mid Week Spring Championship

Giants (7-5) -vs- Tigers (7-4-1)

 

The 2019 Fall Midweek Championship Game featured a rematch of the spring game - the Giants versus the CBA Tigers.  Would the Giants avenge their loss from last season, or would the Tigers repeat yet again?

 

On an overly windy night at El Cariso, the Tigers jumped out early to take a 1-0 lead in the first.  The Giants responded in the 4th, putting up 3 runs of their own and taking a 3-1 lead.

 

Over the next 3 innings, the Tigers continued to chip away, scoring 1 run each inning and retaking the lead, on the back of a solid outing by starter Gio Garcia.  But the Giants offense still had plenty in the tank, and once the Tigers went to their bullpen, the Giants struck back.  A 3-run 7th and 1-run 8th against reliever Leo Alcala gave the Giants a 7-4 lead heading into the bottom of the 8th.

 

That's when the wheels came off the bus for the Giants.  Timely Tiger hitting mixed with shaky defense chased Giants starter Bob Diaz after 7+ strong innings.  Reliever Sal D'Angelo came on to try to get out of the jam, but more poor defense cost the Giants big time.  The Tigers plated 4 in the bottom of the 8th, retaking the lead heading into the 9th.

 

 

Closer Danny Pimienta closed the door, striking out the side in the 9th and cementing the Tigers 3rd straight mid-week title.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Congratulations to the Giants on a great season, making it back to the championship.  But tonight (and the season) belonged to the CBA Tigers - back-to-back-to-back midweek champions!
