2000 National Division Champions!
It's Back-to-Back for Plain Wrap!!
In a rematch from last year's National Division Championship Game, the phrases "Never Say Die" or "It's Not Over 'Til It's Over" come to mind. That's the kind of show Plain Wrap and the RAH Industries Indians put on in Jethawk Stadium.
With Plain Wrap leading a tight ball game, 5-4, the defending champs exploded to a 10-4 lead scoring five runs in the 7th inning. The big blows were a RBI double by centerfielder, Andy Hodgins and then with two outs DH Mike Eby delivered a clutch two-run double. Hodgins had three hits on the day along with teammate designated hitters Kris Landeen and Brett Muché who added four singles.
Plain Wrap starting pitcher Tim DeGrasse cruised into the ninth with 6 K's, no walks and a 13-4 lead. He then saw things get rough for himself giving up a 3-run bomb to Indian's DH, Sef Salas and a two run opposite field shot to catcher Eric Vargas chipping the lead down to 13-11 before DeGrasse was replaced, leaving runners on the corners and no outs.
Reliever Scott Sharts, was then asked to shut the door for Plain Wrap with the Indian's 3, 4 & 5 hitters due up. Sharts proceeded to walk Gabe Chavez to load the bases. He then settled down and retired the next three Indian hitters in a row, recording a big strikeout along the way.
The Indians held the lead briefly 3-1 in the third on a RBI double by Vargas and a RBI triple to deep center by center fielder Eric Martinez.
Plain Wrap manager, Mitch Graff, has now guided his team to winning the National Division championship 3 out of the last 4 years. Plain Wrap is now also the only team to ever repeat as "Back-to-Back" Champions in the National Division.
